NFL Playoffs
The NFL playoffs are the icing on the cake of hard-fought football season. All the teams in the playoffs, and the fans who buy NFL football tickets, look forward to this postseason feast of football more than anything. The NFL Playoffs are a “sudden-death” series of football games to decide who will play in the Super Bowl, once the regular season is over. Six teams – 3 from each conference – qualify for the NFL Playoffs, based on regular season performance. The NFL introduces a slew of conditions into the order of play, with new rules coming into effect when there is a tie-breaker required.
Looking at the NFL Playoffs a little more closely, it goes like this:
The first round of the NFL playoffs is known the Wild Card Round. The third seed division titlist plays at home against the sixth seed wild card. The 4th seeded divisional winner plays at home against the 5th. The first and second seeds from both conferences automatically qualify for the next round. The second round of the NFL playoffs is again seeded, and the top seed is guaranteed to face the bottom seed at home. This ensures each division winner a home playoff game. The teams making it through the Divisional Playoffs play each other in the Conference Championship games, and those winners face each other in the final conflict – the Super Bowl.
There are many disadvantages to this system, but it seems to function as well as can be expected. Write in and let us know how you’d change things if you were the Big Boss of the NFL.
